A River and Birdsong

--

Haibun

A bird’s call outside my window transports me to childhood. To the swaying rhythm of the boat along the Kaveri as a gentle river breeze caresses my cheeks. My heart dances to the flutter of a thousand wings as my eyes feast on nature’s bounty. All human conversation stops as melodious calls blend together to create a delightful symphony of nature. Even the splash of oars in the water adds to the harmony. This avian sanctuary near Mysuru in India is famous as Pakshi Kashi in honor of thousands of migratory birds that find a home in winter. For me, it is a quiet place whose mere memory brings tranquility to the body, mind, and soul. I haven’t visited the sanctuary in decades, but my mind’s eye takes me there every dawn.

Musical love call:

A wounded heart finds healing

In birdsong at dawn
