Beyond Pain — A poem of hope

Dark clouds gather,

Somber and gray –

Like aching cramps

That wouldn’t go away.

My heart beats with hope,

A tiny sapling with the promise of joy.

The frail stalk bows down

Even as the clouds begin to annoy.

Grounded by pain,

Threatened by storm,

The mind oscillates,

Sees both safety and harm.

I spread my arms

To welcome the rain,

For tomorrow’s dawn

Will be brighter than today’s pain!
