Unlearning

--

A poem

Childhood taught her judgment

She was harshest with herself

In unlearning, she found self-love

.

School taught her silence

A million questions she suppressed

In unlearning, she found curiosity

.

Work taught her to be busy

Her days she filled with toil

In unlearning, she found freedom

.

Society taught her to value looks

She chased impossible ideals

In unlearning, she found beauty

.

Expectations taught her responsibility

Pleasing others became a priority

In unlearning, she found herself
